Halloween Costume Ideas 2013: 5 Last-Minute DIY Costumes And How To Make Them For $5 Or Less [PHOTOS]
With less than 24 hours before Halloween 2013 begins, some partygoers and trick-or-treaters may be scrambling to find a trendy costume for the spooky holiday. While party stores nationwide are selling costumes riffing off trending topics (like Miley Cyrus at the MTV Video Music Awards and the viral music video "What Does the Fox Say?"), here are five last-minute and trendy DIY (do it yourself) costume ideas suitable for any Halloween celebration:
LIGHT-UP STICK FIGURE
Based off the recent viral video “Baby LED Light Suit Halloween Costume Preview,” a similar version of this costume can be achieved through the use of a few glow sticks (Five Below is selling a 50-count pack for $5) and by sporting all-black attire. While the costume was originally created through the use of LED lights, this version is a equally impressive and a more affordable option.
"50 SHADES OF GREY"
A play on the recent casting phenomenon surrounding the film adaptation of the “Fifty Shades of Grey” erotic novel series, 50 different shades of grey paint samples (found for free at any home improvement store) and attached to any type of clothing (a grey top if you're feeling cheeky) can have you in this trendy look in no time for no cost.
REGINA GEORGE OF “MEAN GIRLS”
The 8-year-old movie “Mean Girls,” which now has its own unofficial holiday (Oct. 3) and multiple fan pages, also now has its own DIY Halloween costume. An idea originally posted on LaurenConrad.com, the Regina George costume can be achieved by simply cutting two circular holes in any white tank top. (For $4, you can purchase a similar top at Walmart.) A classic mini skirt, colorful bra and high heels finish off the look.
MILEY CYRUS
There's no doubt that “We Can’t Stop” singer Miley Cyrus will be a popular Halloween costume this season. While some retailers are charging upwards of $184.99 for a similar costume, the songstress' look can be put together easily: Just wear her signature pigtail look (See YouTube beauty guru CloeCouture’s tips- jump to 6:40 for the hair tutorial) and the tightest, most revealing clothing in your closet. Try carrying a teddy bear or foam finger to amplify the look.
NORTH WEST
For all those “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” fans who were too busy watching Kim Kardashian give birth last week to go out and buy a costume, a simple North West look can be achieved with a spare piece of paper and a marker. Simply draw a compass on the sheet, have the dial point in the North-West direction and attach it to your outfit of choice.
