Health App in iOS 13

A nifty feature introduced in iOS 13 is the ability of the iPhone to informs users if they are listening to music that could hurt their ears. The same feature is present in the Apple watchOS software. It is also capable of identifying if the user is in a loud area for a long time.

To do this trick, you must have the Health app on your device. The health app usually focuses on the user’s fitness. However, the Cupertino company introduced several other features to cater to other aspects of health and wellness, such as hearing.

The Health app in iOS 13 now comes with a headphone volume tracker. As the name suggests, it informs the iPhone user when the sound is coming from the music or the movie, is way too loud that it could hurt the ear.

How To Setup The Feature

To know if your music is too loud, look for the Health app on your iPhone and tap it. On the lower-right portion of the display tap Browse, then select Hearing. Look for Headphone Audio Levels and tap it.

When you do that, your iPhone will give you a quick summary of the average level of your headphones. Additionally, it compares the average level of this year and the previous year. Interestingly, the data is sourced from every time you use a headphone on your iPhone.

Maximum Safe Levels Using Headphones

According to the World Health Organization, as reported by CNBC, there is a maximum safe level that users must observe to preserve their hearing when using headphones. For instance, users can listen to a maximum safe level of 80 decibels for five hours a day. For those who enjoy listening to loud music, the maximum safe level is 100 decibels for three minutes each day, 95 decibels for not more than 10 minutes each day, and 90 decibels for not more than 30 minutes each day.
