TNT’s “Rizzoli & Isles” is nearing its end. Season 7, which is currently airing on the network, will be the crime series’ last. It seems like it was only yesterday when fans were introduced to Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Maura Isles and Boston Homicide Detective Jane Rizzoli. So, how will the show end after seven long years?

Sasha Alexander, who plays Maura on “Rizzoli & Isles,” teased about the series finale. “I feel that our writers and producers and [showrunner] Jan Nash have serviced all of the characters in the most beautiful way, until the very end, straight through to the finale (airing Sept. 5),” she told TVLine, “I do think that they send off these characters with hope, with love, with friendship and family… all of the things that you would want to see happen to them.”

Alexander also talked about Jane’s (Angie Harmon) new job offer from Quantico. “With Jane and her new job, and Maura as well, we’re dealing with two independent women who have been very career-minded and who are leaving after seven seasons unmarried, with no children. We’re seeing them grow and make choices to live differently. That’s a beautiful thing, because all you ever want to see when you’re committed to any series is that growth. We are left feeling that everyone will stay close, but we are moving on.”

The final episodes of Season 7 will wrap up “Rizzoli & Isles” in a nice bow.

Meanwhile, Monday’s episode of the TNT crime series will see Jane, Korsak and Frankie discover something shocking about Dr. Isles: That she was once married to a rich man named Edward Dunn (Kristofer Polaha). Her best friend finds a hilarious photo of Maura and Edward getting married in Las Vegas. Alexander said that although it is hard to believe how her character managed to keep this secret from her best friend, Maura’s attitude and the way she handles it makes fans believe that she could hide it from her crime-fighting partner.

“Rizzoli & Isles” Season 7 airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on TNT.
