  • Based on the patent, it appears that the Huawei Mate X2 could rival and surpass the specs of Samsung Galaxy Fold 5G

Samsung was the first tech giant to introduce the foldable smartphone in the market. Although the release met several delays, the Galaxy Fold is now available in select regions and seems to be doing quite well in terms of sales. Huawei is the second company to release a foldable smartphone, but if a new report is to go by, it looks like the Chinese company could give the South Korean tech giant a could run for its money.

A new set of renders is now available online courtesy of 91Mobiles, and it shows a beautifully designed foldable smartphone. The site-based its renders on the patent filed by Huawei at the EUIPO. Interestingly, the latest set of Huawei Mate X2 renders offer a few key takeaways that paint the image of the upcoming foldable smartphone.

Huawei Mate X2 Possible Specs And Features

The patent shows a long tablet-sized display that folds inward ( horizontally ) from the center. The Huawei Mate X2 features a vertical sidebar that appears like a secondary screen. The sidebar bears the camera lens configuration, which is consists of a couple of cutouts on the inside and four cutouts on the outside.

It appears that all six cameras of the Huawei Mate X2 function even if the device is closed. However, the design does not have an outer screen, so at this point, we don’t know how Huawei would make them function. A distinctive feature that makes the upcoming Huawei Mate X2 more interesting is the addition of a stylus.

The bottom part of the sidebar bears a hole, which could be the slot designed for the stylus. Compared to its predecessor, the Huawei Mate X2 could be a little bit larger. It is rumored to feature an 8-inch display inside, a 6.7-inch display outside, and perhaps a third display located above the side panel.

Release Date

It is worth noting that these specs are based on a patent, which could end up in the market soon or could stay as a patent. At this point, nothing is certain yet. However, if whispers online are to go by, the Huawei Mate X2 might arrive in the second half of this year.

Considering the possible release date, Huawei might equip the upcoming foldable smartphone with 5G support to pit it against the Samsung Galaxy Fold 5G.
