  • Apple will roll out the iPhone 12 series in the Fall of 2020, according to reports
  • The upcoming flagship smartphone series from Apple will reportedly feature A14 Bionic processor from TSMC
  • TSMC is currently preparing to begin the production of the 5nm A14 Bionic chip, according to reports

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the maker of Apple’s iPhone A-Series chips, is on track to commence production of the A14 Bionic processor for the iPhone 12, which is anticipated to roll out in the third quarter of this year, according to Chinese publication Commercial Times, and first reported by DigiTimes. The chipmaker will begin the production of the 5nm chip by the end of the second quarter of 2020 for chips designed for the 2020 iPhones, adds the report. If this report pans out, the iPhone 12 is the first-ever Apple flagship smartphone series with a 5-nanometer chip.

This is great news for Apple fans since it would mean the iPhone 12 will sport a brand new 5nm A14 Bionic processor, which is faster, more efficient, and more powerful than the current generation A13 bionic chips. The body of the first Apple 5nm chip will be a lot smaller and lighter than the 7nm chips found in the current iPhone models. Moreover, the transistors are a lot closer to each other because of the chip’s size. One of the many benefits of the 5nm A14 Bionic processor includes 5G and Artificial Intelligence ( AI ) integration.

Earlier last year, several sites reported that some of the models releasing under the iPhone 12 lineup would feature 5G support. Based on the reports, it seems that TSMC is the sole supplier of the Cupertino company for its new iPhone processors. Apple prides that it is the first tech company to ship 7nm processors on its A12 and A13 Bionic chips across its two iPhone generations.

The Cupertino tech juggernaut is anticipated to announce its next-generation flagship smartphone series, the iPhone 12 lineup, on its usual fall schedule. Aside from the much-awaited iPhone 12 series, Apple is also expected to release a new model of iPhone SE, which will be called the iPhone SE 2, according to reports. The upcoming compact phone will feature a design similar to that of the iPhone 8 and might be officially released as iPhone 9.
