James Corden has opened up about his recent eye surgery and recalled how people called him out for not driving during Justin Bieber’s “Carpool Karaoke.”

On Wednesday (May 27), Corden appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” During his guesting, he spoke about his absence last month and why he didn’t drive during Bieber’s guesting on his show for the “Carpool Karaoke” segment.

According to Corden, he injured his eye years ago while he was still performing in a play in New York. He used to play by hitting himself in the head with a trashcan lid. One night, while playing with it, he injured his eye. He had to see a doctor and the latter assured him that it would heal and it did. However, the problem somehow returned last year.

“About a year ago it flared up again — this sort of little scratch on my eyeball,” Corden said. “I'd been seeing doctors a lot.”

He also recalled the time when many people called him out online for not driving the car while he was filming his “Carpool Karaoke” segment with Bieber. He revealed that he did it for safety reasons.

“We were being towed by a truck and people said that it was a disgrace that I didn't really drive,” Corden shared.

“The reason I didn't drive that day was because my eye was really hurting and we were worried that it wouldn't be safe.”

Three weeks ago, Corden couldn’t open his eye and was struggling to find his phone and Advil. He reached out to his doctor, who advised him to get a surgery because it had been happening too many times already.

When the surgery was scheduled, Corden still had shows in his calendar. But his doctor insisted that he should skip them because getting the surgery done was more important. Somehow, the comedian was thankful for the last-minute surgery because it didn’t give him time to dread it.

“It's the strangest thing because you're awake, but it's just numb so you can't feel anything,” Corden said about the surgery.

“I just kept going, 'Oh my God. Oh my God.’”

Meanwhile, Bieber sarcastically reacted when Corden came clean about the “Carpool Karaoke” scandal earlier this year.

“Wait... you weren’t driving the car? How could you James? I’m shocked,” Bieber wrote on Twitter.
