‘Jessica Jones’ Season 2 Spoilers: Malcolm Will Likely Have Bigger Role, EP Says
“Marvel’s Jessica Jones” Season 1 was all about the titular superhero, but Season 2 might give her friends a little more screen time. Executive producer Melissa Rosenberg has only just started work on the second season of the Netflix drama, but she hopes to focus much more on one of Jessica’s neighbors. Rosenberg spoke to International Business Times at the Peabody Awards in New York Saturday about which characters she looks forward to developing more.
“Yeah, well, all of them because they all have a lot more story to tell,” Rosenberg said. “The one that I’m looking forward to figuring out more is Malcolm, played by Eka Darville.”
Malcolm was a drug addict at the beginning of “Jessica Jones” Season 1 while having his mind controlled by Kilgrave (David Tennant). Jessica (Krysten Ritter) helped him get sober, but that’s not where Rosenberg wants his individual story to end.
“His arc in the first season kind of ended when he got sober in some ways,” Rosenberg added. “He was an essential part of the story for Jessica’s character, but I look forward to diving deeper into his backstory, his flaws, all the stuff about him. He’s a wonderful actor too.”
Malcolm, of course, won’t be the only person who gets a little more screen time. As previously reported, Rosenberg said she is open to bringing in other characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe if it makes sense in the episode, just as she did with Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) in Season 1.
“With Rosario’s character, that actually helped tell the story,” Rosenberg explained. “That was an essential part of the story. We couldn’t have told that story without her. And that’s what you want in a crossover: that there’s a reason that character has to be there in order to tell that story. And if it’s not, I’m not going to do it.”
“Jessica Jones” Season 2 does not yet have an air date. The drama will be honored on the Peabody Awards, which air June 6 at 8 p.m. EDT on Pivot.
