Jillian Rose Reed Teases Potential ‘Awkward’ Revival At MTV Awards
Los Angeles- The show ended in 2016 after five seasons, but the cast of MTV’s “Awkward” still isn’t necessarily ready to say goodbye to the show just yet. In fact, if it was possible, they would likely all jump at the chance at a revival.
While walking the Red Carpet at the MTV Movie and TV Awards May 7, Jillian Rose Reed, who portrayed Tamara Kaplan on the show for all five seasons, told International Business Times that not only is the cast still very close, but they would all absolutely be up for it if MTV asked them to come back for a new version of the series.
“We would love that!” She told IBT. “Every single cast member would be on board for that, totally.”
Though the decision regarding whether or not the show would get a revival wouldn’t be up to the cast specifically, Reed was very encouraging, saying that there always could be a possibility.
“I mean who knows?” She said. “Never say never.”
Reed also revealed that despite the show being off the air for a year already, the cast still remains close and sees one another whenever they can.
“Yeah, we’re all very close. We hang out all the time,” she said.
One such time the cast appeared to reunite was at co-star Molly Tarlov’s wedding back in March, which Reed shared a photo of on Instagram. In the group shot, she is seen kissing Brett Davern (who portrayed Jake Rosati) on his cheek. She also shared another image with Barret Swatek (Ally) on her account in February.
Reed isn’t the first person involved with the beloved series who has previously discussed the potential for even more of a future for the show. In May 2016, ahead of the show’s finale (it was never officially canceled by MTV, though it had been announced when the show was picked up for a fifth season that it would likely be the final one ) the show’s Executive Producers Mike Chessler and Chris Alberghini discussed the potential of the show receiving a sixth season with TV Line, saying that the decision was going to be made solely on MTV’s part, but if anyone felt that more stories about the cast could be told, then it would likely happen.
“We as the showrunners certainly believe there are plenty more stories left to tell, and we’re excited about the potential to do so,” Alberghini said at the time. “But we don’t control the fate of the show. It’s just a matter of MTV deciding what fits into their schedule next year and how many shows they’re going to have. We’re certainly interested, and most of the cast is interested.”
“Awkward” premiered on MTV in 2011 and quickly became a popular show for the network. It followed the story of Palos Hills teen Jenna Hamilton (Ashley Rickards) as she navigated the complicated world of her high school while also trying to fix a false stigma about herself that she had tried committing suicide. Joining her for her adventures were Reed’s Tamara, her best friend, potential love interests in Davern’s Jake and Beau Mirschoff’s Matty, and a nasty foe out of head cheerleader Sadie Saxton, portrayed by Tarlov. The series came to an open-ended close in 2016 after catching up with the characters one year after they all went their separate ways for college.
