It's been a difficult week for Jim Carrey following the apparent suicide of his ex-girlfriend Cathriona White on Monday. The "Dumb and Dumber" star is dealing with the loss by doing all he can do to help out White's family, who has flown in from Ireland.

Us Weekly reports Carrey put White's family up in a hotel room in Los Angeles and also met with them on Wednesday. The family released a statement, saying "Cathriona was a shining light in our lives who was loved deeply by her entire family. We will miss her terribly and at this difficult time we ask to be left in private to mourn our loss."

Carrey was "shocked" and "deeply saddened" when he heard the news about White on Tuesday. "She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled," Carrey told Entertainment Tonight in a statement. "My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt."

Friends of White have also started to pay tribute to her on social media. One of her friends posted an Instagram video saying that White was "a beautiful soul" and "a joy" to be around. "She is someone who was always there for her friends, kind, giving, thoughtful, talented and one of the best human beings you will ever come across," her friend said in the caption.

TMZ reported the 30-year-old White left a suicide note that had Carrey's name on it. The note reportedly said the couple's relationship came to an end on Thursday, Sept. 24. Law enforcement officials believe White died from an overdose of drugs, however the autopsy results have not been released yet.

Carrey and White dated on and off after first getting together in 2012. It's reported the couple got back together last May.
