John Lennon Tooth Sells at Auction for How Much?
Being rich and famous means people will buy just about anything that once belonged to you, and in the case of the late great Beatle John Lennon, it was his molar tooth.
Lennon's tooth sold at auction for £19,500, or $31,200, CNN reported.
That is far more than initially expected selling rates.
We are expecting it to achieve at least £10,000 but it is not unknown for these items as rare as this to reach six figures, Karen Fairweather of England's Omega Auctions house told the BBC last month.
A Canadian dentist, Michael Zuk, said he was the one who purchased Lennon's not-so-pearly white.
Most people would say I was crazy, but I think it's fantastic, he said, the UK's Daily Mail reported.
Lennon's tooth is not the only body part of a celebrity that has sold at auction. Hair has proved to be quite popular.
An auction-goer shelled out $15,000 in 2009 for a chunk of hair that reportedly belonged to Elvis Presley, The Associated Press reported. This was in addition to $3,300 in auction house fees, The AP reported.
Earlier this year, a lock of Justin Bieber's hair sold for $40,668 on eBay, CBS News reported.
Hair and teeth aside, there are other weird things that people are willing to pay for.
Earlier this year, someone paid $200 for 14 pairs of Bernie Madoff's boxer shorts, The Miami Herald reported.
