Katy Perry Reveals Super Bowl 2015 Halftime Show Details: 7 Things We Know About Her Performance
The world will hear Katy Perry roar when the pop singer hits the stage at the 2015 Super Bowl to headline the event’s halftime show Sunday. And according to the artist, viewers should prepare for a seriously “wild” performance.
Curious what Perry has up her sleeve for Super Bowl XLIX? We’ve got the scoop on what viewers should anticipate when Perry steals the spotlight for a few minutes from the Patriots and Seahawks.
1. What Songs Will Perry Sing?
Hollywood Life teased that out of all of Perry’s hit singles, the singer will perform “Roar” and “Firework” during her Super Bowl halftime performance. A source added that Perry, 30, also is toying with the idea of belting out a cover, “but that hasn’t been set yet.”
2. One-Of-A-Kind Performance
The singer revealed during a press conference Thursday that viewers shouldn't expect her Super Bowl halftime show to resemble that of her "Prismatic" tour.
"I made a whole different show for this halftime show,” she said. “We spent many months [creating] it.”
3. Wild Props
Perry revealed she’ll bring something to her halftime performance that no artist has before: deadly props.
"I think I'm the only person in Super Bowl halftime history that will bring both a lion and sharks to the show. It's going to be wild out there,” she teased at the press conference.
4. Surprise Halftime Show Guests
The singer previously revealed that Lenny Kravitz will share the stage with her. "We've worked up something incredibly soulful. Of course he brings his soul and I think he's going to make the night even sexier -- just the appropriate sexiness, everyone. Family fun," she confirmed.
But as it turns out, the “American Woman” artist won’t be the only singer snagging a bit of the spotlight. “I thought long and hard about it. It will be a throwback of sorts that definitely needed some more shine. All I can say is it will be a real female fun night. When this person enters the stage and you hear the first ring of a chord, I think jaws will drop and faces will melt," Perry recently said.
The Associated Press is reporting that the mystery artist set to perform with Perry and Kravitz onstage will be Grammy winner Missy Elliott. Elliott worked with Perry during a remix of the song “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" in 2011.
5. Wardrobe Malfunction Prevention
If viewers expect Perry to have a wardrobe malfunction à la Janet Jackson, think again!
"I'm not self-sabotaging by nature,” she explained. “If there is news about my performance, I want for all of it to be about the music and female empowerment and that everybody just had a great time.” The singer added that she has done “plenty of fittings” and has tested out her costume’s reliability “on the field.”
“Like I said, my motivation and my objective here is for people to be talking about the music the next day. I hold a lot of pride in the music, and I wouldn't want anything to [detract) from that,” she said.
6. Perry’s Red Hot Outfit
Perry dished that not only will she try to slip into a couple of different ensembles during her 12½-minute performance, but that her opening costume will really blow fans away. "All I'll say about my opening costume is that it's going to be flaming hot,” she teased.
7. Who Is Perry Cheering For?
The singer has admitted that she’ll root for the Seattle Seahawks.
“I was texting with my good friend Russell Wilson,” she said of Seattle quarterback. “He’s been able to visit me and see my show. I was texting him, ‘How do you prep for the Super Bowl?’ ... I love the Seahawks because of Russell. I think I’m probably going to go for them.”
