Apple’s most powerful smartphone yet, the iPhone X, only has 3GB of RAM. And it seems the Cupertino giant is changing that this year by including 4GB of RAM in its next-generation iPhones.

French site iGeneration discovered Monday that a Geekbench benchmark listing for a mystery device, called “iPhone 11,2,” was published online on June 27. Since Apple is rumored to launch three iPhones this year, it’s not clear which variant will the tested device become.

What’s quite striking about the benchmark entry is the mention of 3,748 megabytes. This means the unit has more RAM than the current-generation iPhones that are housing 2,815 megabytes or 3GB of RAM. It should be noted that KGI Securities analyst and renowned Apple leaker Ming-Chi Kuo previously said that two OLED iPhones will feature 4GB of RAM, while the only LCD model will still come with 3GB RAM, as per MacRumors.

If Kuo’s prediction is right, then the tested device could either be the iPhone 11 or its “Plus” variant. The leak also seemingly suggests that the two OLED models will be powered by the rumored “A12” chip, which is composed of six cores. Each core scored 4,673 in the single-core test, while the entire unit obtained a 10,912 rating from the multi-core test.

For comparison, the current flagship device scored an average of 4,206 in the single-core performance test and 10,128 in the multi-core performance test. AppleInsider also compared their Compute scores and the mystery device obtained a Compute score using Metal of 21,691. On the other hand, the iPhone X’s Compute score was at 15,234.

Benchmarking tools are trustworthy when it comes to leaking performance scores and internal specs of devices. However, there’s still no confirmation that the tested iOS 12 device will be released as one of the official iPhone models this fall. More often than not, benchmark results that are published ahead of a device’s official launch could come from prototypes that developers tested using the Geekbench app.

According to several sources, the tech giant is launching a direct successor to the iPhone X that will also have a 5.8-inch OLED screen. The company is believed to be launching a “Plus” variant that will sport a 6.5-inch OLED display as well. Lastly, Apple is said to introduce a low-cost model that will feature a 6.1-inch LCD display alongside its two flagship offerings. But all of these things are just speculations for now. It’s best to wait for Apple’s big fall event to learn more about the new iPhone models.
