KEY POINTS

  • Seahawks fans flash signs on national television calling for Seattle to acquire Jimmy Garoppolo
  • San Francisco may not be keen on dealing Garoppolo to their rivals
  • Garoppolo remains as an insurance policy for the 49ers if Trey Lance fails to deliver

The Seattle Seahawks may enter the 2022-23 NFL season with Drew Lock or Geno Smith as their starting quarterback.

But as pundits note, considering an upgrade would help the NFL team's upcoming campaign.

Some fans have shown who they feel would best call the plays on the field for the Seahawks.

One ardent follower of the franchise has made it clear on national television by flashing a placard with the words "We need Jimmy G freaky fast."

The paying fan in the stands is evidently referring to displaced quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo of the San Francisco 49ers.

It is a given that the Niners have turned their attention to Trey Lance to be their primary quarterback for the coming NFL season.

Garoppolo, someone who is coming from offseason shoulder surgery, is seen more as insurance for head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Despite claims that Lance is ready, the 30-year-old is there to possibly be an option if the third pick of the 2021 NFL Draft fails to meet expectations.

As of this writing, the two-time Super Bowl champion has been linked to several NFL teams, particularly the ones in dire need of a play-caller.

The Cleveland Browns are one of them although it would be a short-term fix.

This is because the Browns will be missing Deshaun Watson for at least 11 games for his controversial sexual assault case.

There is also another factor to consider. The rivalry between the two sides is well-documented, and Seattle fans know that they need someone who can follow in the footsteps of Russel Wilson.

This shift in attention also comes after their previous target, Zach Wilson of the New York Jets, suffered a meniscus tear and a bone bruise in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles last Friday, August 12.

Wilson already underwent arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday, August 16 and was reportedly successful.

There is no question that the Seahawks could use a huge quarterback upgrade if they find a way to maneuver Garoppolo to Seattle.

But as things stand now, all that will depend if the 49ers are willing to budge the 2013 Walter Payton awardee and his $25.6 million salary for the coming season.
