No need to clamor to find evening holiday plans because the annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show continues to have you covered. This will be the 42nd time the event’s taken place, and viewers can expect it to once again top itself.
Celebrate Independence Day on Wednesday with a grand display of fireworks over the East River. If you’re in the New York City area and want to get out of the house, there are many places to go to witness the affair in person. If you’re out of town or just want to relax at home while watching, tune in to NBC’s two-hour broadcast, starting at 8 p.m. EDT. For those who miss the first airing of the July 4th special, there will be an encore presentation immediately after.
The fireworks, which will begin roughly at 9:25 p.m. EDT, will be blasted off from seven barges in the East River, from East 23rd Street to East 40th Street. People in Brooklyn, New York looking to watch the 2018 Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks presentation should search for any location with an unobstructed view of the sky over the river. As for Manhattan inhabitants, there are elevated portions set up along the FDR Drive for public viewing. These viewing points are located at: 42nd Street and FDR Drive, 34th Street and FDR Drive, 23rd Street and FDR Drive, 18th Street and Avenue C, as well as at Houston Street and FDR Drive.
Macy’s has been putting together this massive event since it wrapped last year’s production, according to its website. The pyrotechnicians and show organizers worked to create a brand-new show that will amaze its viewers. There will be 20 fresh visuals seen in the sky during the 2018 Fourth of July spectacular, including a Neon Pinwheel, brocade horsetails, pulsing hearts and swirling water fountains.
The 25-minute display features 3000 shells and effects being fired off every minute. These will come in all different colors, such as brocade gold, red, titanium and red. The fireworks don’t all land at the same spot in the sky, but the highest ones will reach 1,000 feet. It takes about 50 pyrotechnicians to make sure this all happens without any issues.
NBC’s airing of the July 4th fireworks show will also feature performances by Kelly Clarkson, Ricky Martin, American Authors, Blake Shelton and Keith Urban. Akbar Gbaja-Biamila and Matt Iseman are hosting the broadcast.
“Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular” will air on NBC on Wednesday at 8 p.m. EDT.
