Good news, “Maleficent” fans. A sequel to the 2014 Angelina Jolie film might be in the works, Deadline wrote in an exclusive report Monday. The 21st century adaptation of “Sleeping Beauty” starred Jolie’s daughter Vivienne Jolie-Pitt as young Aurora.

Writer Linda Woolverton was asked to write the screenplay and the film’s original producer, Joe Roth, will also be onboard. Naturally, Disney Enterprises Inc. wants Jolie to reprise her role as the horned villainess, and the Oscar-winning actress, 40, has reportedly been told about a possible sequel.

But whether or not she returns to her role in "Maleficent" is a different story, Deadline noted. Even though studios wanted to make sequels to “Salt” and “Wanted,” Jolie reportedly did not want to star in them. However, since “Maleficent” grossed nearly $760 million worldwide, it might be worth a try.

If she doesn’t choose to reprise her role, it wouldn't be because she didn’t like the part. Jolie told Entertainment Weekly in March 2014 that she “loved” the character. "I was quite sad to put my staff down and put my horns away because somehow, she just lives in a different world," she said. "But I did have to take my staff home to practice walking with it in my cloak, and then I would go outside and scream at the bushes to expand my voice and play with my voice. So, Mom was a bit nutso for a period." She added that husband Brad Pitt liked Maleficent, too: “He thinks she’s cool.”

Jolie’s next film, “By the Sea,” which also stars husband Brad Pitt, will hit theaters Nov. 13, 2015. The actress wrote and directed the flick, which is set in France in the mid-1970s, according to the Internet Movie Database.
