A man in India's Maharashtra state has been arrested after he allegedly raped a 15-year-old boy inside a crematorium Tuesday and threatened to kill the minor if he resisted, police said.

Police from the city of Pune arrested the unnamed 32-year-old man and charged him under sections 307, 363 and 377 of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, The Indian Express first reported.

According to police, the man — who has a previous criminal record — at around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday took the boy on his motorcycle on the pretext of having breakfast but instead allegedly drove the minor to a tin shed inside a crematorium and raped him. The man allegedly threatened to kill the boy when he resisted, police said.

Following the attack, the boy contacted police and filed a complaint against the man.

A court has remanded the man to police custody for seven days, an investigating officer said. He added that an investigation into the incident was ongoing.

According to the officer, the man "has a criminal record and he has earlier been named in serious cases, including murder."

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old Indian social media personality was also arrested last week after he was accused of raping and impregnating a young girl in the state of Kerala.

Police arrested Vignesh Krishna — known on the video platform TikTok as Ambili — last Saturday and booked him under various sections of the POCSO Act and the Indian Penal Code.

According to police, Krishna had met the girl on social media last year, and they soon started meeting in person and later promised the girl he would marry her. He later took her to his house and allegedly raped her.

Krishna attempted to evade police capture when the parents of the girl filed a complaint against him over the girl’s pregnancy. He was arrested when police used his passport application to track his whereabouts. Police believed Krishna was planning to move abroad due to the application.
