A 22-year-old man in Indiana was arrested for allegedly strangling his mother and stabbing her multiple times.

The Batesville Police Department officers responded to a house at the Golden Villa Apartments on Boehringer St. at around 9 p.m. Thursday after a family member requested a welfare check, WISH-TV reported. Upon reaching the scene, responding officers located Heather Mulcahy lying on her bedroom floor with stab wounds to her neck and upper body.

They also found a knife covered in blood at the foot of her bed, the Batesville Police Department said in a statement Saturday. Mulcahy's accused son, Dalton Hall, was found in the hallway of the apartment complex.

The injured woman was airlifted to a hospital for treatment of her injuries.

"She was quickly provided emergency medical treatment at the scene and was ultimately transported via helicopter for her injuries to be treated at a hospital trauma center in Indianapolis," the police department said.

While being treated at the hospital, Mulcahy spoke to the medics and said her son Dalton strangled her and stabbed her multiple times, according to WTHR.com.

Cops spoke to multiple witnesses in connection with the incident and also contacted Dalton's brother, Abraham Hall, from Hamilton, Ohio.

Abraham told investigators Dalton spoke to him earlier in the day, asking him where he could "get a good knife," officials said.

As part of the investigation, officials "obtained a search warrant where numerous items of physical evidence have been collected from Ms. Mulcahy's apartment and Dalton Hall's person for forensic analysis," the statement added.

Dalton was taken into custody and was held at the Ripley County Jail on a cash bond of $1,000,000.

"The Ripley County Prosecutor's Office is presently evaluating the case to determine what criminal charges are appropriate," the statement continued. The motive behind the stabbing incident remained unclear.

A similar incident was reported earlier this month after a 21-year-old Florida man allegedly stabbed his mother and killed her. Matthew Sisley admitted to intentionally stabbing his mother to death and accidentally stabbing his sister during the incident. While speaking to investigators, Sisley said he killed his mother "because she never pushed me to be a man." He further maintained he didn't regret his actions.
