Manchester United suffered an embarrassing 6-1 loss against Tottenham Hotspur in their recent Premier League matchup on Sunday. Manager Ole Gunnar Solkjaer took the responsibility for the lopsided defeat.

“I hold my hand up, it is my fault. It’s very embarrassing, it hurt all the players, it hurts me as the manager. It’s my worst day ever,” Solsjkaer was quoted by the Guardian, as saying.

The match opened with Bruno Fernandes scoring on a penalty in the second minute of the game for Manchester United. In what appeared to be a great start soon crumbled as Tanguy Ndombele answered back for the Spurs with a goal in the fourth minute.

“It is the worst day of my career as Manchester United manager and the worst day for all of them as United players [but] it is not the worst day in Manchester United history, we have bounced back before,” Solskjaer reassured the fans back at Old Trafford.

The duo of Spurs' Harry Kane and Heung-min Son dominated the rest of the match as both of them tallied a brace of their own. The offensive duo overwhelmed Manchester United’s defense, as they were able to take advantage of the rattled Red Devils.

“Today is the worst. I can’t say any more than that. There are a lot of wrongs today. We need to look at everything,” Solskjaer continued.

“It’s nowhere near good enough. When you have a defeat like this you have to look yourself in the mirror. They are going away on international duty and that the ones that stay have time to work. That is hard as we need to get together and battle.”

For the Spurs’ head Jose Mourinho, he shared how proud he was of how his team performed in the win.

“It’s a victory of the confidence. The team was so confident, to concede a goal in the first minute, we could be destroyed [but] we weren’t, the team was super confident in playing,” Mourinho told the BBC.

“Are we in the moon with this victory? No. We are just happy but we are not in the moon,” Mourinho shared.

It was a difficult game for Manchester United as they seek to bounce back in their next matchup. They will face Newcastle in their upcoming English Premier League bout on Oct. 17 at St. James Park.
