  • Sources reveal that Mauricio Pochettino could join Manchester United this season as a buyout looms
  • The 48-year-old Argentinian is reportedly disgruntled about staying on as PSG manager
  • Michael Carrick was named as interim manager for Manchester United

Manchester United’s search for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s replacement could be coming in very soon as Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly open to jumping ship midseason.

The Manchester Evening News first reported of Pochettino’s willingness to switch clubs, and renowned football journalist Duncan Castles corroborated the news by revealing that Paris Saint-Germain is considering buying out the 49-year-old’s contract.

Pochettino was first linked to joining Manchester United back in November 2019 after he was sacked by the Tottenham Hotspurs.

The two sides remain connected through much of last season after being beaten 6-1 by Tottenham but chose to stick with Solskjaer while Pochettino settled for a job with the French side.

According to the Manchester Evening News’ sources, Pochettino’s supposed eagerness to leave the French side is because he was aiming for a job with Arsenal to replace Unai Emery and stay in England.

This is big news for fans of the Red Devils as it was reported yesterday that they were sticking with interim manager Michael Carrick as their man on the sidelines this season while they search for a permanent manager.

Should a buyout happen for Pochettino, Manchester United is bound to go after him.

As the head honcho, Pochettino has led Tottenham to a runner-up finish in both the Football League Cup during the 2014-15 season and the UEFA Champions League in the 2018-19 season.

His style of coaching would fit perfectly with a Manchester United side that is rife with talent across the board, especially in the attacking department.

Employing a 4-2-3-1 formation that favors a high-pressing, attacking style of football, the Red Devils will have a ton of ways to score as they work their way inside the box.

This would be perfect for a side that has guys like Cristiano Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford serving as the main scoring threats while Bruno Fernandes gets to work his magic in the midfield to set up scoring opportunities.

However, Manchester United would need to pay compensation to Paris Saint-Germain in order to acquire Pochettino midseason.

With a UEFA Champions League fixture with Valencia set for Tuesday, November 23 then a date with Chelsea in the English Premier League on Sunday, November 29, Carrick will have to do his best in preparing his side for both matches as they look to get back to their winning ways.
