  • Manchester United’s transfer move for Moises Caicedo has been deemed “too messy” to proceed
  • Caicedo is set to complete his move to an unnamed English Premier League club
  • The Ecuadorian midfielder has a playing style like Paul Pogba

Manchester United is bound to miss out on a Paul Pogba-esque target this transfer window.

The Red Devils have been tracking Independiente del Valle star Moises Caicedo ahead of the current window. However it was previously reported that a transfer move for the Pogba-like midfielder has been branded as “too messy” for Manchester United to push.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side slipping away from the race to sign Caicedo, a yet-to-be announced English Premier League club is now set to complete the transfer of the 19-year-old.

According to Independiente del Valle general manager Santiago Morales, they have already sealed the deal for Caicedo’s move to the English top-flight. However, the name of the club will be reveled in a few days.

"Everything is closed with a Premier League club for Moises Caicedo," the GM recently told La Red. "Today he’s getting his work visa and between Wednesday-Thursday we will announce it."

While Caicedo’s new club is still unknown, Brighton & Hove Albion is believed to be his most likely destination, Talksport reported.

The Independiente midfield star has become one of the most sought-after youngsters in South America in recent years. This season alone, Caicedo has already played over 30 matches for the Ecuadorian club, scoring six goals in the process.

In 2019, Spanish coach Miguel Angel Ramirez sent him into Independiente’s first-team. At 17 years old, Caicedo was already instrumental in the club’s Copa Sudamericana first-ever continental title.

However, it was just last year when Caicedo actually drew attention from Europe’s top five leages.

Due to his impressive box-to-box running game, many in the sport have been convinced that Caicedo truly possesses the qualities of Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante and Manchester United’s Pogba, the two midfielders whom he has vowed to emulate as a pro.

As for his “favorite” club, the Ecuadorian standout had previously admitted that he always liked Manchester United.

“Manchester United are my favourite club,” Caicedo said in a TV interview last year. “I really like the game of N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba, I learn a lot from them every time I see them. I always try to do what they do, that’s why they are there.”

Aside from Caicedo, the Red Devils could also lost another midfield prospect this window. Sporting CP’s Pedro Goncalves, who is likened to Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, has been linked to a move to Old Trafford, but the Portuguese club has no intensions of parting ways with its talisman.
