It has been over six months since NBC announced longtime anchor Matt Lauer was fired after being accused of sexual harassment. Along with the end of his employment came reports of a strained marriage with wife Annette Roque. Sources close to the couple have reportedly revealed the two are close to finalizing their divorce.

The journalist and Dutch model, who have been married since 1998, are said to be in the process of hashing out the final details of their divorce settlement. Insiders believe it’s just a matter of time before the couple can legally break ties with one another.

A source told Page Six “the divorce is imminent. Matt is really just laying low at the moment. He plays golf and sees his friends... His focus has been on the kids, and he knows there’s nothing he can do apart from wait.”

In May, insiders alleged Roque was set to receive a hefty settlement payout from her estranged husband once the terms were finalized. A source told Us Weekly, the model was “asking for a one-time cash payout of $20 million instead of requesting spousal support.”

“If she does get the $20 million, Annette won’t ask for child support, but Matt will pay for major expenses for the kids, education, healthcare until they are 21,” the insider explained.

Lauer and Roque share three children together, sons Jack and Thijs and daughter Romy. Following his initial apology addressing the sexual harassment accusations made against him, the journalist later came forward to defend his family against the “false stories” being told about him.

“I have made no public comments on the many false stories from anonymous or biased sources that have been reported about me over these past several months . . . I remained silent in an attempt to protect my family from further embarrassment and to restore a small degree of the privacy they have lost. But defending my family now requires me to speak up,” Lauer told The Washington Post in April.

The anchor acknowledged he acted inappropriately considering his role as a husband and father, but denied he used force on his accusers. “However, I want to make it perfectly clear that any allegations or reports of coercive, aggressive or abusive actions on my part, at any time, are absolutely false,” he shared.

Although it was initially believed Lauer intended to fight to repair his romance with Roque, those close to the anchor have revealed, “The damage in his marriage can’t be fixed.”
