Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could let go of the world “Royal” in their branding because “Sussex” is enough.

According to recent reports, Queen Elizabeth II has banned the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from using “Sussex Royal” as their brand. Many found it problematic since Prince Harry and Markle have established their global trademark using it. But according to U.K.-based Piers Bracher, a deputy managing director at Four Communications, the couple does not need it because “Sussex” is already enough for them and they could drop “royal” without losing recognition.

“They don't need to use it,” Bracher told The Times about the world “royal” being under review for the couple’s branding.

“They are very well known and liked in the United States. If I were them then the sensible thing to do would be to take off that word voluntarily. The spotlight is even further on them. Rather weirdly they've increased their brand value because of it.”

Prince Harry and Markle are expected to make more money after leaving the royal family. In fact, with their global appeal, they could dwarf what Prince Charles makes from the duchy estate. The Sussexes could make $500 million or more annually.

“We would conservatively estimate that the ‘MegRy’ revenue will dwarf that of Prince Charles various Duchy business fortunes. With his revenue estimated to be £200m in the last year, we would not be surprised to see Harry and Meghan more than double that from scratch with their combined global appeal,” Andy Barr, a retail expert, said.

Prince Harry and Markle have reportedly already trademarked over 100 items including pencils, socks and bookmarks under “Sussex Royal.” They are also planning to stamp the brand on dozens of other products including hoodies, t-shirts, gloves and more.

Meanwhile, the netizens praised Queen Elizabeth II for not allowing Prince Harry and Markle to use the “Sussex Royal” brand for their business ventures. According to many, the Sussexes would only monetize the monarchy in that case. Prince Harry and Markle are no longer working royals, so they should stay away from their royal connections.

Barr also found it ironic why Prince Harry and Markle would use the brand “Sussex Royal” when they were trying to escape from the royal family’s clutches. Prince Harry and Markle announced last month that they were stepping down as senior members of the royal family.
