  • Mojang Studios believes that the integration of NFTs in Minecraft will divert the players
  • The developer does not support third part NFT projects as they may be unreliable
  • Mojang says NFTs create a scenario of the 'haves and the have-nots'

Minecraft developer Mojang Studios has said that it won't allow the integration of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in the game, adding that blockchain technology will not be included in the client and server applications as well.

Mojang, a part of Xbox Game Studios, wrote in a Wednesday blog post that "integrations of NFTs with Minecraft are generally not something we will support or allow."

Minecraft is a 3D sandbox game owned by Microsoft, which rose to popularity over the years, making $415 million in revenue in 2020.

“To ensure that Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our client and server applications, nor may Minecraft in-game content such as worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods, be utilized by blockchain technology to create a scarce digital asset,” Mojang stated.

According to Mojang, there are several firms that have created "NFT implementations that are associated with Minecraft world files and skin packs" and added that there could be Minecraft “collectible” NFTs or a feature allowing players to earn digital tokens for performing certain tasks on Minecraft outside the actual game.

Mojang stated that the integration of NFTs in the game goes against the philosophy of Minecraft as it promotes digital scarcity and exclusion. "NFTs are not inclusive of all our community and create a scenario of the haves and the have-nots," the developer stated in the blog post.

Furthermore, Mojang believes that the "speculative pricing and investment mentality" surrounding NFTs "encourages profiteering" while diverting the focus of the players from the game.

Due to most pump and dump schemes, the Minecraft developer is not in support of third part NFT projects as the industry remains unregulated.

"Blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our Minecraft client and server applications nor may they be utilized to create NFTs associated with any in-game content, including worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods," it said.
