One of the most-awaited announcements fans were looking forward to during the recent Nintendo Direct is about "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild." Unfortunately, the Japanese gaming giant did not reveal anything new about the game. However, it assured fans that the game's development is proceeding smoothly and more updates would be revealed sometime this year.

During the recent Nintendo Direct, "Zelda" series producer Eiji Aonuma addressed fans' anticipations in relation to any "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2" news. The executive apologized because he could not offer anything new about the game during the stream. But, he assured fans that the team will provide more information about the sequel within this year.

"I'm sure a lot of you saw me and thought there might be news about the sequel to the "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" game," he said. Unfortunately, we don't have anything to share right now. We apologize. Development is proceeding smoothly and we should be able to bring you some new information this year. For now, we'll have to ask you to wait just a bit longer," Aonuma added.

Nintendo announced "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2" at the E3 2019 with a brief teaser. Since then, the industry heard so little about the game or anything related to its development update. Rumors have it that the new set of information about the sequel could be announced at this year's E3 conference or in another Nintendo Direct event.

Rumors and leaks surrounding the sequel have been rife online over the past months. Austrian retailer Gameware suggested that "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2" could launch in the second quarter of this year. This is apparently not happening considering the absence of any announcement about the game at the recent Nintendo Direct. Another claim believes that the game could arrive sometime in the holiday of this year.

While these rumors are interesting, fans should temper their expectations since these are not substantiated. Like all leaks and rumors, details about the game's release date should be taken with a pinch of salt.

"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2" is currently in development for Nintendo Switch.
