Conor McGregor and Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) had a heated exchange at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) Sunday. The scuffle happened two months after the Irish mixed martial artist suffered from a broken tibia in his left leg.

The confrontation took place while the two were walking on the red carpet. McGregor asked MGK for a photo but the American rapper declined, according to TMZ's sources. After rejecting McGregor's request, MGK reportedly pushed the mixed martial artist, causing him to stumble back and spill his drink.

The encounter was captured in photos. In one of the snaps, McGregor, who wore a pink suit at the event, could be seen being held back by a member of his team as he seemingly tried to strike back.

Another photo of the action showed Megan Fox, MGK's girlfriend, caught up in the middle of the commotion. The actress was there to accompany the rapper on the red carpet.

Witnesses told TMZ that the teams of McGregor and MGK managed to step in before things between the two could escalate.

Meanwhile, another source told Page Six that McGregor threw his drink at MGK moments after the scuffle.

"They scuffled then it settled down and Conor went for him again," the source told the outlet, adding that the photographers at the event "weren't happy" and were "saying they were going to boycott McGregor because they were worried MGK and Megan wouldn't talk."

The security had to be involved at one point as everyone was already screaming, another source told the outlet.

"McGregor was ready to throw fists," the source claimed. "Security was having trouble holding him back."

Several clips were taken during the commotion as well, one of which showed McGregor and MGK exchanging words on the red carpet before being pulled apart by their respective teams.

Asked for comments about the incident, a representative for McGregor told E! News, "It was unfortunate that MGK's security reacted. Conor and Dee enjoyed the performances."

McGregor's cane was also tossed to the ground during the encounter and someone had to give it back to him afterward, according to the outlet. It can be recalled that McGregor broke a tibia in his left leg during a fight in July.
