KEY POINTS

  • The Minnesota Timberwolves have D'Angelo Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns as their top players of the team
  • LaMelo Ball is considered one of the best talent in the upcoming NBA draft
  • Ball can fit in with the Timberwolves with his size and playmaking ability

The Ball family is one of the more popular names in basketball. If it’s not the talented Ball brothers spearheading online highlight videos, it’s their father being quoted for another bizarre quote.

Despite their unorthodox methods, there is no doubt that the family has talent. Lonzo was taken as the number 2 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. Despite his unusual jump shot at that time, he possessed remarkable court vision and passing ability.

These are similar attributes that make Lonzo as an asset for any team. It’s an advantage for any team to have someone who possesses Lonzo’s playmaking skills. And that’s what his younger brother LaMelo can bring to any NBA team. LaMelo has the passing and court awareness much like his brother. But to add to these, he is also a prolific ball-handler and shoots and converts more shots than Lonzo.

The youngest Ball brother spent the last season in the National Basketball League Australia as a member of the Illawarra Hawks. He averaged 17 points, 7.6 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game. While he’s a ball-dominant guard, he can take some load off in any team’s starting point guard’s duties in facilitating the offense.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to rise as the third overall pick in the upcoming draft. They currently show promise as they recently acquired D’Angelo Russell that sent former number one overall pick Andrew Wiggins to the Warriors.

The combination of Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns serves as an upside for the Timberwolves as the two have shared a bond outside the basketball court. With the chemistry of these two evident, infusing the team with a talented playmaker can serve as a bonus for the squad.

Ball is speculated to be drafted by the Timberwolves and can assist in facilitating the offense. Russell can focus on hoisting threes while Towns can properly take control of the paint inside. LaMelo can also interchange with Russell at different times of the floor with the versatility of Ball’s agility and size.
