The Dallas Mavericks are projected to have more cap space than most teams in the NBA offseason. With point guards dominating the free agency class, there’s a chance one will end up playing alongside Luka Doncic for the 2021-22 season.

Dallas has shown interest in signing Kyle Lowry, according to multiple reports. The Mavericks could also pursue Mike Conley Jr., ESPN's Brian Windhorst reports.

Adding an All-Star-caliber point guard could ease some of the burden off of Doncic. Doncic almost single-handedly led Dallas past the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the playoffs, averaging 35.7 points, 10.3 assists and 7.9 rebounds per game.

Los Angeles eliminated Dallas in seven games.

It marked the second straight season in which Doncic and the Mavericks lost in the first round. Dallas has $34.33 million in projected cap space, according to Spotrac, giving them a chance to significantly improve the roster.

Lowry made six straight All-Star teams before coming up short last season. The veteran averaged 17.2 points, 7.3 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game while making 39.6% of his three-pointers with the Toronto Raptors.

Lowry will have no shortage of suitors. The 35-year-old is expected to be targeted by the New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat and New Orleans Hornets.

Conley finally made his first All-Star team in 2021. As part of the No. 1 seed Utah Jazz, Conley posted averages of 16.2 points, 6.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

Utah is considered the favorite to sign Conley this summer.

Chris Paul will be the top point guard on the market if he turns down his $44.2 million player option. Paul will more than likely return to the Phoenix Suns, though he could seek a bigger payday elsewhere in free agency.

Before Giannis Antetokounmpo signed the supermax extension with the Milwaukee Bucks last season, Dallas was expected to use its cap space to pursue this year’s NBA Finals MVP.
