KEY POINTS

  • The Golden State Warriors are poised for a comeback after a disappointing 2019-2020 season
  • One player the Warriors could benefit from is Orlando Magic's, D.J. Augustin
  • Augustin is a reliable guard who can score from beyond the arc and facilitate the team's offense

The Golden State Warriors are looking to bounce back from being the last team in the NBA. The franchise is still in a position to recover strongly as there are a lot of possible talents that the team can benefit from including Orlando Magic’s sharpshooter D.J. Augustin.

The trusty guard has been one of the more reliable players for the Magic since 2016. Averaging 10.4 points and 4.6 assists per game, Augustin has been a veteran guard that has delivered the playmaking needs of the team. The way he facilitates the offense and steps up from beyond the arc remains to be one of his best traits as a professional.

With all of the options that the Warriors have, they can further deepen their roster by including someone like Augustin from the free agency market. Rekindling their dominant squad is still within grasp given the resources that they have. The 2021 pick they received from Minnesota remains to be valuable and can be used to lure strong players for their team. While this hasn’t materialized to anything yet, adding proven shooters such as Augustin would benefit the team in the interim.

Adding an experienced player like Augustin gives the Warriors the veteran leadership on and off the court. It has been a unique year for the Golden State care of the series of injuries and roster changes the franchise went through. Signing players like Augustin may help with the sudden loss of their veteran stars that were replaced with rookies and younger players.

Per Blue Man Hoop, the versatile guard is a strong fit for the team if he’s used as a backup guard. The 32-year-old can step up as support for Steph Curry who is poised to have an increase in minutes in the coming seasons.

Being an experienced player, Augustin can work well coming off the second unit. Couple his offensive skills with the elite shooting of Curry and Klay Thompson and it may be a big step for the Warriors to return to their old dominant form.

While plans are not final yet for the Bay Area team, it would be interesting to see how Golden State approaches the upcoming seasons. It will be important to have experienced veterans that could support the team’s stars while the organization rebuilds.
