  • After Coachella, the NCAA Music Festival is the second musical event to get canceled

The 2020 NCAA March Madness Music Festival has become the latest event to be canceled due to the rising concerns over coronavirus. The festival that was being sponsored by Capital One was all set to be headlined by none other than Taylor Swift this year.

The organization confirmed the news of the cancellation on Twitter and noted that all the upcoming events have been axed due to the grave public threat. NCAA also explained that the organization does not want to hold large public gatherings and contribute to the spread of the “pandemic.”

Capital One also echoed the same sentiments and stood by the NCAA’s decision to cancel all the events. The company further stated that their annual Jam Fest 2020 will be canceled since the well-being of their staff and artists is more important for them.

The news comes a couple of days after the postponement of the highly-popular music festival, Coachella. In a statement obtained by the Hollywood Reporter, the show’s promoter, Golden Voice, announced that the much-awaited festival is postponed until October to prevent the spread of the deadly virus. Local authorities told the organizers to postpone the event because they were not letting anyone organize a large public gathering due to the outbreak.

Coachella has now been pushed back to the second week and third week of October while Stagecoach will take place in the last week of the same month.

Everyone who purchased the tickets for the event that was originally planned for April will get the notification for the new dates and those who won’t be able to attend the festival can opt for a refund.

Artists and bands like Travis Scott, Frank Ocean, and Run Against The Machine were going to headline the festival this year. However, it is yet to be known if they will be available to perform on the new dates.

The U.S. is seeing a rising number of cases of the deadly disease. A total of 1,758 cases have tested positive while 41 people have died in the country as of late. More than 12 states have declared a state of emergency over COVID-19.

Places like New York City, Washington, California, Oregon, Florida, and New Jersey have all declared states of emergency. The virus has since spread to six continents and more than 100 countries.
