With a massive snowstorm headed for the northeast, it’s time to prepare for a day inside. After you stock up on food and alcohol, remember to update your Netflix queue. You can now download content with the Netflix app to watch offline, so not even a power outage can interrupt your snow day on the couch. Below are recommendations for what to watch on your 2017 snow day:

Snow-Themed Movies

It’s a snow day, so you might want to keep it festive with these winter-themed titles.

“Snow Day” — It’s the ultimate snow day movie. This 2000 film shows a group of kids trying to stop the snow plow from clearing the way for them to return to school.

“Snow Buddies” — Watch adorable puppies navigate their new role on an Alaskan dog sled team.

“Dead Snow” — Looking for a little zombie action? This horror movie shows a ski trip interrupted by zombies, but these aren’t just any undead flesh eaters. They’re Nazi zombies! The sequel, “Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead,” is also available.

“White Bird in a Blizzard” — Despite the title, don’t expect a massive focus on snow. But if you’re looking for something a little more serious, try this Shailene Woodley indie flick. Woodley stars as a teen who is abandoned by her perfectionist mother, but she soon realizes that her departure wasn’t as unaffecting as she pretended it was.

“Fireplace for Your Home: Classic Edition” — If you’re not looking for plot, but you want to set a certain cozy snow day mood, Netflix can help with this filmed version of a real fire.

TV Shows To Binge

If you’re able to avoid work and responsibilities on the snow day, it’s the perfect time to binge-watch a TV show. If you have yet to watch these, add them to your Netflix queue.

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” — The epic series that launched Joss Whedon’s career just celebrated its 20th anniversary, and it’s more loved than ever. Find out why. Perfect for fans of “Vampire Diaries” or “Gilmore Girls.”

“Great British Baking Show” — Even if baking isn’t your forte, you can still enjoy watching amateur British bakers put their skills to the test. Great for fans of “MasterChef Jr.” and “Chopped.”

“The Crown” — Watch Queen Elizabeth II’s early years in this biopic drama. It scooped up several SAG Awards and Golden Globes, so it’s sure to be a hit for years to come. “Downton Abbey” and “Victoria” fans should watch.

“Marvel’s Luke Cage” — Netflix’s latest Marvel endeavor, “Iron Fist,” is getting panned by critics, but generally, Marvel and Netflix have made some great shows. “Luke Cage” follows a man with superhuman powers who decides that he has to protect Harlem from corruption and violence.

“Love” — If you’re looking for awkward romance, you’re in the right place. The half-hour Netflix comedy follows cool girl Mickey (Gillian Jacobs) and nerdy Gus (Paul Rust), two opposites who suddenly find themselves in a relationship. The Judd Apatow-created comedy is great for “Girls” and “Master of None” fans.
