As the survivors of the Sandy Hook shooting get ready to start school again, one boy wrote a letter to his best friend who won’t be sitting beside him when he attends class this week.

John, a Sandy Hook survivor who has only been identified by his first name, lost his friend Jack Pinto during last week’s shooting and with his heart full of sadness he wrote a letter to his departed pal that was photographed and published on Twitter by USA Today reporter Yamiche Alcindor.

The young boy told his friend that they used to have fun together; he missed him and loved him.

The farewell letter reads:

“Jack,

"You are my best friend.
"We had fun together.
"I will miss you.
"I will talk to you in my prayers.
"I love you Jack.

"Love,
"John”

Under the letter who placed two pictures of the friends standing side by side.

Jack was laid to rest on Monday. Since he was a huge Giants fan, his family clothed him in the No. 80 jersey of his favorite player, wide receiver Victor Cruz.

The gut-wrenching letter has begun to go viral on social media, with it being shared among friends and had over thousands of likes on Facebook.

Former students of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., are going to be trying resume their studies when they attend Chalk Hill, a former middle school.

According to police, Sandy Hook will remained closed “indefinitely” as authorities collect evidence from the crime scene.
