  • A new "Assassin's Creed" game might not be released this year
  • The game could come out in 2022
  • In an interview, "Assassin's Creed: Valhalla" senior writer Alain Mercieca shared where the next "AC" game might be set

Earlier rumors suggested that the next "Assassin's Creed" game could be set in Japan, but it seems that it might be in Europe or South America instead.

During a recent interview with The Gamer, "Assassin's Creed: Valhalla" senior writer Alain Mercieca may have hinted at the next possible location of the next "AC" installment. Mercieca provided a couple of interesting places and timelines that the hit stealth action-adventure could visit. They include Brazil, which is the largest country in South America, and the island of Malta, which is located in Europe.

Mercieca admitted that there are many possible locations to choose from, especially for him who is so fond of history. "As someone who is obsessed with history you could get me excited about a niche group of warriors in a lost society on the island of Malta and I’d be ready to jump into it and make it pop," Mercieca explained.

"On a grander scale I do feel there is a rich tapestry of culture in South America that the brand has yet to explore fully," the senior writer said further. "From the Incas to the Spanish Conquistadors, it is a very fascinating time. Though Black Flag did touch on some of it, I'm feeling more the Brazil region."

Of course, this does not necessarily mean that the next series installment would be set in these spots as producers, directors and marketing executives also come up with ideas and decisions that could influence the location of the next "Assassin's Creed" installment.

Meanwhile, there are rumors claiming that Ubisoft might not release the next "AC" game this year. Apparently, the gaming studio instead pushed the game's launch to 2022.

With Ubisoft attending this year's all-virtual E3 event, fans are hopeful that an announcement about the next "Assassin's Creed" title could happen. It is worth noting, however, that the gaming studio has not yet said anything about the game. Therefore, fans should temper their expectations and take these rumors and leaks with a grain of salt.

"Assassin's Creed Valhalla" is the latest "AC" installment released in 2020. It is available on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4m PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
