KEY POINTS

  • Raiders to offer Tom Brady two-year $60M deal
  • Pats may match offer
  • Longevity of play could sway Brady's decision

Tom Brady has been posting teasers of what he has planned ahead with at least two teams strongly linked to the six-time Super Bowl champion. The New England Patriots were initially seen as the frontrunner in the Brady sweepstakes but it appears the Las Vegas Raiders are seriously upping the stakes.

In a previous post, it was reported how the Patriots were willing to pay Brady $30 million for one year. While the figures are in line with the usual rates NFL quarterbacks get these days, the length of tenure is something the 42-year-old may become wary about. Most know that Brady feels he can play until he is 45 so a one-year deal may hold no promise of playing beyond the 2020-21 NFL season.

Probably aware of that loophole, the Raiders are now willing to double the length of stay, reportedly ready to offer Brady a $60 million two-year deal. Word of such comes from Larry Fitzgerald Sr. who claims he was told that this is the package the Raiders plan to pitch. He is a long-time media member over in Minnesota and father of future NFL Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald.

his development, if true, should give Pats owner Robert Kraft something to think about. Though he openly admitted that he would love to bring back the four-time Super Bowl MVP, the numbers may not add up. Then again, he could prove how badly he wants Brady in New England by matching the Raiders' offer. The answer to that remains to be seen.

For Brady, there are several things to consider. One is on whether the money would have a factor in his decision. The lengthier contract is undoubtedly something that could tempt him to move to Las Vegas although he needs to make new adjustments. Raiders head coach Jon Gruden has known to be awed by Brady and he is likely fully aware that the three-time NFL MVP would be a great influence in the locker room.

Assuming he does agree to move to Las Vegas, seeing Brady as a starter may happen. As to how long that would hold up is another matter. Most saw him somewhat declining on the football field last NFL season, something that critics had expected to see for someone reaching the twilight of his career.

But then again, Brady has proven he can overcome odds. The only problem he needs to face right now is father time and to stay healthy. The worst-case scenario is to see Brady playing backup and mentoring other Raiders players. Either way, getting paid $30 million per season would not be that bad. So will the Pats match or offer something better?
