Nintendo has announced that it has sold 14.86 million units of the Nintendo Switch worldwide. The Switch console has now outsold the Wii U in just 10 months.

The Japanese gaming company confirmed the figure this morning in when it released its financial report for the nine months ending in Dec. 31, 2017. The number of Switch units sold is not only impressive on its own, but also because how easily and how quickly it was able to surpass the lifetime sales of the Wii U. The Wii U sold only 13.5 million units in five years, as pointed out by Eurogamer. Based on these numbers, the Nintendo Switch seems to be on track to match or even surpass the Gamecube, which sold 21.74 million units worldwide. That said, the company is still far off from the 101.63 million units sold by the Wii.

Aside from the overwhelming success of the Switch console, it was also a great year for Nintendo games. “Super Mario Odyssey” was the company’s best-selling game of 2017 with 9.07 million copies sold since October. The second best-selling game goes to “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with 7.33 million, and “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” places in third with 6.70 million.

Other first-party titles that saw some success also include “Splatoon 2” with 4.91 million units, “1-2-Switch” with 1.88 million units, “ARMS” with 1.61 million and “Xenoblade Chronicles 2” with 1.06 million. Nintendo was able to sell 25.08 million games in the last quarter, bringing its total sales to 47.1 million games (including third-party titles) sold worldwide. The company expects to sell a total 53 million games by the end of this current quarter.

Nintendo also announced that it had an operating profit of 116.50 billion yen (US$1.07 billion), which is up from 32.26 billion yen from the previous year. The company also said that this was its most profitable quarter since 2009. The company projects that it could get 160 billion yen (US$1.47 billion) in operating profit by the end of March 2018.

Nintendo now expects to sell a total of 20 million Switch units this year and confirmed that a new “Pokémon” game would be released “in 2018 or later,” according to the BBC. Looking ahead, Nintendo’s next major Switch title will be “Kirby Star Allies,” which is scheduled to be released on March 16. Also in April 20, the company will launch Labo, the new cardboard kit peripheral for the Switch.

As for the Nintendo 3DS, the handheld gaming device is starting lose its momentum. The company was only able to sell 5.86 million units of the 3DS during the holiday quarter, which is a 9 percent year-over-year decline, according to Engadget. The top performing games for the 3DS were “Pokémon Ultra Sun” and “Pokémon Ultra Moon,” with the two selling 7.17 million units together. This accounts for a 33 percent decrease year-over-year.
