HMD Global is planning to release its first Nokia flagship Android smartphone this year with the Nokia 8. Now it looks like the company will be revealing the new flagship Android smartphone on Aug. 16 in London, England.

HMD Global has begun sending out invites to members of the press for its upcoming Aug. 18 event in London. According to Android Authority, the invitation states that HMD Global will “unveil the next milestone for Nokia phones” at the upcoming event, which might be a hint at the Nokia 8 flagship.

Although HMD Global hasn’t officially announced the Nokia 8 yet, it hasn’t stopped leakers from giving us a look at the upcoming flagship. Just last week, VentureBeat’s Evan Blass shared a high-resolution render of the Nokia 8 while also seemingly confirming some of its specs.

The Nokia 8 is expected to feature a 5.3-inch 1440p quad HD display and inside it’s going to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chip. The flagship handset is also expected to arrive with 4Gb or 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

The Nokia 8 will be available in single-SIM and dual-SIM variants, while on the software side of things the device will run stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The upcoming handset’s most interesting feature is it’s set of dual cameras on the back, making it the first HMD Global Nokia phone to feature the camera technology.

The Nokia 8 will feature 13-megapixel dual cameras on the back, and will be outfitted with Zeiss optics. Nokia recently recently renewed its partnership with Zeiss optics last month, and it looks like the Nokia 8 will be the first of many Nokia Android phones to feature Carl Zeiss lenses. The high-resolution render of the Nokia 8 clearly shows the Zeiss branding alongside the dual cameras.

Since this device will be a flagship smartphone, the Nokia 8 is expected to come with premium price. The Nokia 8 was recently spotted at a Scandinavian retailer’s website and it was listed as having a €589 price tag, or around US$675.

An earlier report also suggested that it may cost €749 in European markets, which is roughly around US$699. The Nokia 8 is expected to arrive in at least three color options, namely blue, silver and “gold-copper.”

Although everyone is expecting the Nokia 8 to be the highlight of HMD Global’s Aug. 16 event, the company might also announce a new budget-friendly device as well. A device with the model name Unknown Heart was recently spotted on the benchmarking website Geekbench. This low to mid-range handset is believed to be the Nokia 2.

The Nokia 2 is listed as having an ARM Qualcomm quad-core chip clocked at 1.27GHz. Nokia Power User believes that this is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 212. The Nokia 2 is also listed as having 1GB of RAM and will run stock Android 7.1.1.

Based on its specs, the device seems to be a budget-friendly Android smartphone. The cheapest Nokia Android smartphone right now is the $160 Nokia 3.The Nokia 2 might even be more affordable than that.
