Imprisoned former football star O.J. Simpson could be a free man if he is granted parole July 20, a state parole official said Tuesday. Simpson and his lawyer will appear via closed-circuit cameras from his prison in Lovelock, Nevada, and speak to the parole board members in Carson City requesting his freedom, according to the prison officials.

Simpson, who was convicted for organizing and carrying out a robbery at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in 2007, could walk out of the Lovelock Correctional Center on Oct. 1 if the parole board members approve his release. Simpson was sentenced to 33 years in prison in 2008 with eligibility for parole after nine years.

"If he's able to get parole, my prediction is he's going to want to live a quiet life," Simpson's attorney in Las Vegas Malcolm LaVergne told ESPN Monday.

The 69-year-old was acquitted in 1995 in the 1994 double murder of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman.

Simpson’s sister Shirley Baker, in an interview with Inside Edition that aired Tuesday, expressed her optimism about her brother's release from prison. “There’s no reason why not,” Baker said, adding: “He’s there, he’s doing his time, he abided by the rules. ... And I just hope and pray that they will give him parole.”

Simpson's close friend Tom Scotto told ABC News the former football star was “hopeful” he will be released soon. "He's hopeful. He's not going to try and retry the case," Scotto said. "He's done all positive things in prison for the prison and bringing everybody together." Scotto also revealed that if released, Simpson "wants to just keep a low profile, be with his kids, be with his family, play golf—is one of his main things."

Simpson, who is serving the first nine years of his 33-year prison sentence on 12 charges, including kidnapping and armed robbery, is a fan of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," a former prison guard told Inside Edition, adding: "He likes to keep up with all the gossip with them."

Simpson and the Kardashian clan are close as Robert Kardashian Sr. was serving on the so-called Dream Team of attorneys hired to defend Simpson during his murder trial over the deaths of Nicole Brown and her friend Goldman. Kris Jenner was also a close friend of Nicole Brown.

Last year, several rumors surfaced that Simpson was Khloé Kardashian's "real dad." However, the Kardashian clan debunked the rumors.

In January last year, Khloé said in an interview that her father Robert died from stress caused during Simpson's trial. Robert died of esophageal cancer in 2003.

“He never spoke about it,” Khloé said of the trial of the century in 1995. “My dad ... died of throat cancer, which does not run in my family. My dad [didn’t] smoke, [didn’t] drink. I think holding in secrets [and] stress kills you! I feel like you manifest things, you have to think — I’m into symbolic situations.” She added: “What I do respect is that [regardless of] what my dad did or didn’t know, my dad would never betray his friend’s trust.”
