Japanese tech giant Sony is reportedly preparing for a new State of Play event next week following earlier reports suggesting the much-awaited online video gaming showcase would take place in September.

Sony's PlayStation State of Play is happening on Aug. 19, according to Future Games Show producer James Jarvis. On Twitter, Jarvis shared he's been excited for the event to feature gameplay for "Horizon Forbidden West" and confirmed the PlayStation-exclusive title's release would be pushed to 2022.

Moreover, he noted the upcoming PlayStation State of Play would offer an extended look on "Kena: Bridge of Spirits" and a new update on "Gran Turismo 7." He also teased there would be a "new surprise announcement" possibly happening at the online show.

However, in another tweet, Jervis clarified, "This is, of course, just rumor and speculation. Nothing is confirmed so let's see if today brings any news."

Past rumors claimed Sony might announce the delay in the release of "Horizon Forbidden West" at its upcoming event, which aligns with Jarvis' claim.

As for "Gran Turismo 7," fans believe an update, which could come with the game's public beta announcement, is imminent. PlayStation Experience website is now accepting sign-ups for the game's build.

Sony might also offer fans an extended look at "Kena: Bridge of Spirits," which is now scheduled to be released on Sept. 21. It can be recalled that the title was initially set to roll out in 2020 but got delayed a couple of times.

However, it's worth noting that the most interesting part of Jarvis' tweet is the "new surprise announcement" that would reportedly take place at the State of Play event. Unfortunately, he did not provide any details about it.

Industry insider Roberto Serrano, who previously reported the date of Sony's online event, found Jarvis' claim "very strange" and noted, "This could be the first time Sony has released the State of Play announcement 9 days before the event."

Sony has not yet said anything about the date of its next PlayStation State of Play. In the absence of an official confirmation from the company, fans should temper their expectations.
