  • Alan Shearer said Harry Kane has been phenomenal in both scoring and providing assists
  • Shearer is amazed by how Kane is able to create chances without compromising his goalscoring
  • Former Spurs striker Darren Bent wants Kane to leave Tottenham if necessary

Premier League’s record goalscorer Alan Shearer has heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane.

Spurs striker Kane has been playing one of the best campaigns of his career this season for Jose Mourinho, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists so far. The England captain’s exceptional form didn’t go unnoticed as he recently received compliments from a legendary striker, Shearer.

The former Newcastle United star still holds the record for most goals scored in the history of the Premier League. Among the current strikers in the English top-flight, Kane presents a strong case to possibly break his record in the future. But as early as now, Shearer is already impressed with the Tottenham talisman.

“Harry Kane has been phenomenal this season in terms of scoring goals and [providing] the assists,” Shearer recently told Coral. “Look at what happened at the weekend [against West Ham], that through ball that he played on earlier in the game, then he gets his goals.”

Many strikers have proven their skill in scoring, but only a few can effectively score and create chances for their teammates. For Shearer, Kane has the ability to do both without compromising his goal efficiency.

“Some of his [Kane’s] play is exceptional, bringing other people into the game, whether he is playing that center-forward role or whether he is just dropping that little bit deeper,” the Premier League legend explained. “We have seen him do that and he has been absolutely magnificent at that and it has not affected his goalscoring at all.”

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent was another all-time great who also recently weighed in on Kane’s notable start this season. Bent is also amused with how the 27-year-old managed to bounce back, coming off an inconsistent campaign last year.

But unlike Shearer, the Spurs legend had urged Kane to leave Tottenham and take his talents to a better club if Mourinho’s side fails to make it to the Champions League once again.

“I genuinely believe this is the best we’ve seen Harry Kane play, in terms of his all-round game and his impact in the game,” Bent told talkSPORT.

“If they [Tottenham] don’t win anything again this season and, as well as Harry Kane’s playing now, what does he do?” he continued. “Does he stay there again for the sake of it because he loves the club? Or does he go on to another level? Someone of that quality needs to be playing in the Champions League.”
