  • Rodgers eyeing Kieran Tierney to replace Ben Chilwell
  • Chillwell move to Chelsea uncertain
  • Tierney coudl reunite with Rodgers at Leicester City

Leicester City knows that some of its players may be leaving soon and are preparing for that possibility. One player who is believed to be heading out is Ben Chilwell. The 23-year-old defender is believed to be heading to Chelsea although big money is needed to make it happen. However, there are also added reports that the Blues have already given up hope of getting Chilwell, likely due to the financial crunch brought in by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Regardless, anything can happen and Brendan Rodgers knows he needs to be ready. It appears he has someone in mind to replace Chilwell in case the English footballer does move out. Kiernan Tierney of Arsenal FC is the player on his radar, someone he worked with when both were still with Celtic FC via the Transfer Window podcast.

If Rodgers does pursue Tierney, it would make a lot of sense. The stint of the 23-year-old left-back has not exactly been performing well with the Gunners. His run has been made even difficult with injuries, a reason why he has been left out by Mikel Arteta. The Spanish coach has opted to use younger players like Bukayo Saka and it appears younger and durable players are on the way. That includes Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico who could be heading over to Emirates Stadium.

But all this may depend on what Chilwell plans to do. He has hardly been mentioned in transfer talk involving Chelsea, indicating that he could end up staying. Add the COVID-19 pandemic factor where teams are trying to curb down spending, it may be in his best interest to stick with the Foxes at least for one more season. But then again, a chance to move to the Blues remains in the air, especially this summer.

According to the Mirror, Frank Lampard still has a vested interest in Chilwell and that may still go down in the summer. Further tempting the 23-year-old defender is the fact that he could be the new first-choice left-back for the Blues. But for that to go down, Chelsea will have to cough up roughly $107 million. If that is fulfilled, it may activate plans for Rodgers to take in Tierney from Arsenal as well.
