Reign
Three queens do everything they can to preserve their power in “Reign” Season 4. Catch episode 1 on Friday, Feb. 10 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW. The CW

It’s time to bring out the corsets! “Reign” is back with Season 4 on The CW on Friday, Feb. 10 at 9 p.m. When we last saw the drama series, poor Lola (Anna Popplewell), Queen Mary’s (Adelaide Kane) last lady-in-waiting, was beheaded by Queen Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) because she was part of an assassination plan to kill her.

Unfortunately, Mary Stuart never ordered Lola to kill the English queen. It was the devious John Knox (Jonathan Goad) who concocted the plan that led to her execution. Meanwhile, Leith (Jonathan Lippert Keltz) was left bleeding in the snow while his fiancée, Princess Claude (Rose Williams), was busy picking out a wedding dress.

What will happen in “Reign” Season 4? Here is everything we know about the future of Mary Queen of Scots:

1. Episode 1 Synopsis

The period drama kicks off with Mary testing her brother James’ (Dan Jeannotte) loyalty after she learns that he met Knox.

In the English court, Elizabeth agrees to help Lord Darnley (Will Kemp) so that she can sabotage his relationship with Mary. Darnely, who will soon become Mary’s husband, has a claim to the English throne so he poses a threat to Elizabeth. Furthermore, if he marries Mary, the couple can rule both Scotland and England together.

2. Episode Titles

The CW has released the titles of a few episodes:

  • Episode 1 – “With Friends Like These”
  • Episode 2 – “A Grain Of Deception”
  • Episode 3 – “Leaps Of Faith”
  • Episode 6 – “Love & Death”
  • Episode 8 – “Unchartered Waters”
  • Episode 15 – “Blood In The Water”
  • Episode 16 (series finale) – “All It Cost Her”

3. Only One Queen – Mary Or Elizabeth – Will Be Left Standing

“Reign” Season 4 will focus on two powerful queens, Mary and Elizabeth, and how the two seek revenge on each other. Mary hasn’t forgotten that her cousin killed Lola, while Elizabeth still remembers that she wanted her dead. Only one of them will be left standing at the end of the season.

History books reveal that Elizabeth executes her cousin. Will “Reign” stay true to the past or tell a different tale? More importantly, will the series finale be a satisfying end to the Scottish Queen’s colorful story?

4. Mary’s Second And Third Husband Will Be Seen

Kane’s character has been searching for a husband ever since King Francis (Toby Regbo) breathed his last. Her search will end in Season 4 when she marries Darnley. Unfortunately, their marriage won’t be a happy one. Her second husband will be hungry for power and his wife will often have to keep him in check. Worse still, his mother’s love hinges entirely on his ability to secure a crown.

“Reign” Season 4 will also introduce Mary’s son with Darnley and her third husband, Lord Bothwell (Adam Croasdell). Interestingly, Bothwell was accused of murdering someone close to Mary but was acquitted of all charges.

It will be interesting to see the Scottish Queen as a mother.

5. Mary Will Do Anything To Preserve Her Reign

Mary may be a mother but she is a queen first. She will fight hard to protect her son, her reign and the people around her. However, the situation in Scotland and all over Europe is going to get worse when Protestants continue to wage wars against Catholics.

6. Catherine Pits Her Children Against Each Other

There is ample drama to be seen in the French court. The shrewd Catherine de Medici (Megan Follows) will pit her children against each other so that she can hold on to her power. Even Princess Claude (Rose Williams) can’t stop her mother’s scheming because some of her children really are monsters.

7. Narcisse’s Son Falls In Love With Princess Claude

Speaking of Claude, very little is known about her future with her fiancé Leith. What is known is that Lord Narcisse’s (Craig Parker) son Gabriel will fall in love with her despite her obvious affections for Leith.

“Reign” has recast Charles’ younger brother Henry. He will be much older in Season 4.

8. This Is The Final Season

The underlying theme of the final season will be the sacrifices monarchs make in order to maintain their power. The CW series will explore what it means to be a woman in power in 16th century Europe.

Catch the “Reign” Season 4 premiere on Friday, Feb. 10 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
