“Reign” Season 4, episode 2 premieres Friday, Feb. 17 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW, The CW

“Reign” is back! The Season 4 premiere emphasized the rivalry between Queen Mary (Adelaide Kane) and Queen Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) while also updating fans of The CW series about the happenings of the French court.

Mary Queen of Scots was forced to test her brother James’ (Dan Jeannotte) loyalty after she discovered that he was playing for all sides. After he chose his sister over others, he was forced to executive the Earl of Clan Gordon.

Meanwhile, in England, Elizabeth freed Narcisse (Craig Parker) and his son John after she learned that it was Protestant leader John Knox (Jonathan Goad) who orchestrated her assassination attempt. Still, there are two queens and only one English throne. She isn’t backing down from defeating Mary.

What will happen next week in “Reign”?

In Season 4, episode 2, Elizabeth is going to do everything in her power to thwart Mary’s attempts at acquiring her throne. This includes enlisting Narcisse’s help and shockingly, forming an alliance with Knox, the same man who tried to kill her!

The promo shows the English queen sitting down for tea with Knox. He tells her that, “Mary’s return is inconvenient for both of us.” Elizabeth replies, “There be a way we can work together I imagine.”

While Mary’s cousin is busy plotting against her, in Scotland, the Stuart Queen has problems of her own to deal with. She discovers that there is a leak amongst her advisors and sets out to uncover the traitor. She also has considerable arguments with James. These two siblings need to get along in order to protect Scotland.

In French court, Catherine (Megan Follows) will take some desperate measures to regain some of her lost power.
