Rihanna is known for her fashion sense as much as she is for her music, so it should come as no surprise that she wowed guests at the CFDA Fashion Awards at Lincoln Center in New York. The 26-year-old artist, who was honored with the Fashion Icon award, wore a sheer dress adorned with more than 200,000 Swarovski crystals, and little else. She paired the look with a matching head scarf and gloves. While she didn't cover her chest with pasties, she did wear a beige thong to show some kind of modesty.

The custom Adam Selman sheer gown was both a hit and a miss for fans who gave it mixed reviews on Twitter. “Rihanna is gorgeous, but she looked absolutely trashy in that dress. And don't tweet me your opinion because you know I don't care,” wrote @tsmitherss__, for example. On the other hand, Rihanna’s dress choice was supported by some. “Rihanna is wearing a sheer dress. She's not naked but even if she was it's her body, she's an adult, & she can do what she wants,” said @staylikethis4vr.

At the CFDA, Rihanna was presented with an award for Fashion Icon by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. "I can compensate for all of my weaknesses with fashion," the beauty said during her acceptance speech. "Fashion should never be frustrating, it should be fun."

Rihanna is certainly no stranger to the fashion world. Last year, she debuted her collection for River Island. In July, Rihanna expressed her enthusiasm concerning a fashion line, saying: "I've been wanting to design my own collection for some time. River Island is the perfect partner for me to collaborate with, and working with a British, family-run business also really appealed to me."

At the CFDA, Rihanna also said while on stage. "As long as I can remember, fashion has been my defense mechanism."
