  • Alexa on R1T and R1S will enable owners to control windows, entertainment, navigation, and HVAC on their electric vehicle with the use of voice commands

Rivian R1T pickup truck and Rivian R1S SUV owners would soon find themselves saying, “Alexa, let’s do a Tank Turn.” The American startup electric vehicle maker announces the integration of Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa to its upcoming vehicle lineup. Rivian also announces its plan to integrate Alexa to the 100,000 all-electric delivery trucks ordered by online shopping giant Amazon for its delivery fleet.

With Alexa on Rivian R1T, owners would be able to use voice commands to control the electric pickup truck’s various systems. It includes control on the windows, HVAC system, navigation, and the entertainment system of the vehicle. Additionally, this feature would allow owners to check their vehicles using their mobile devices or other smart on-screen gadgets.

Moreover, Rivian would enable offline control for some features of Amazon’s voice assistant, given that the Rivian R1T pickup truck is meant to be used in rugged and remote locations where the Internet access could be limited. Furthermore, it would include commands that would help make the most of the distinct features of the electric adventure pickup truck. “Rivian’s vision is to enable exploration without compromises and provide our owners with the best digital experience, no matter where their adventure takes them. We want this to be the most comprehensive, most seamless Alexa integration in the market,” according to Rivian Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe.

The inclusion of Amazon Alexa on Rivian R1T pickup truck adds some finesse touch to the electric vehicle that will provide owners with a seamless home to car and back experience, says Techcrunch. “We’ve continued to be impressed by the entire team at Rivian, and we’re excited to be working together on this upcoming integration. By leveraging the newest version of the Alexa Auto SDK, Rivian is able to make Alexa a natural part of the driving experience and provide customers with continuous access to key car control features – even in remote locations where reception is poor or nonexistent,” revealed Vice President of Alexa Auto at Amazon Ned Curic.

Earlier in 2020, the online retail giant Amazon led a $700 million funding for the electric vehicle startup Rivian. It appears that it continues its influence in the company with the integration of Amazon Alexa on both Rivian R1T and Rivian R1S. The electric vehicle startup company recently filed a patent that would allow its owners to determine the charging status of their vehicles even at a certain distance.

The patent is looking into a color-coded battery charging technology and indicator. A nifty concept that will make charging Rivian R1T and Rivian R1S very convenient. Another patent hints that Rivian might feature a swing and drop the tailgate on its Rivian R1T pickup truck, which could make loading and unloading an effortless task.
