Monday was a sad day for the entertainment world as well as the animal rights community. “Simpsons” co-creator Sam Simon died at the age of 59 in his Los Angeles home Sunday, Variety reported. He was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2012.

The “Simpsons” co-creator and philanthropist was an avid Twitter user who posted messages about animal rights until his death. He called out celebrities like Britney Spears for swimming with dolphins and denounced SeaWorld. He shared pictures of people in China eating “man’s best friend” and he promoted veganism.
