Shelby Mitchusson Responds To ASL ‘Lose Yourself’ Video, Thanks Fans In Facebook Post
Shelby Mitchusson had no idea her video would go viral. Eight months ago, she submitted her interpretation of Eminem's "Lose Yourself" for an application to work with the ASL (American Sign Language) team at Austin City Limits. For anyone who saw the video, it’s no surprise that she got the job. Mitchusson’s passionate expressions radiate through the video as she melodically sways to the beat. She hits every note with emphasis.
By Thursday night, the YouTube video had more than 215,000 views after it became a top-trending topic on Facebook. She took to her personal account to thank everyone for sharing and watching the clip.
“I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has shared my video and thank you for taking the time to watch it. I have to say, I did not upload it for entertainment purposes,” she wrote. “I uploaded it purely for interpreting.”
Mitchusson then went on to explain why she created the video in the first place. “Actually it was my interpreter application submission video to work with an amazing interpreting team at Austin City Limits 2014,” she wrote. “I got the gig and still my heart flutters with how well our team worked together equally and the fact that finally these companies are opening their eyes to the true hidden gem talent of Deaf performers & Deaf people signing music-- which we NEED to see more of!”
The interpreter finished her post with a heartfelt thank you to her fans. “Again, thank you all it truly means a lot to me [because] this song hits home to my heart in so many ways and I hope that my passion and love are expressed through my work,” Mitchusson said. “I always work from my heart.”
