Snapchat Redesign: How To Share A Story Outside Of The App
In the weeks leading up to the release of the redesigned Snapchat for users in the United States the company announced that users will be able to share Snapchat content outside of the app, a Snap Inc. spokesperson told International Business Times.
The new feature will be available to Snap users who have the newly redesigned app starting on Wednesday and is scheduled to become available to more users as the redesign rolls out over the next few weeks. When it rolls out, it will be available to all users on iOS and Android using the most up-to-date version of the app.
The hope from the company is that the new feature will help Snap users share stories with friends and family who don't use the app, a spokesperson said.
How to share a Snapchat Story outside of the app
First, users should make sure that they have the newest version of Snapchat as well as the redesigned version of the app. Only users with the redesign will be able to use the Story sharing function.
Users will be able to share Official Stories and unpartnered Our Stories as well as Search Stories, a spokesperson said. To do this, users should open the app and press and hold the Story's icon in the Discover portion of the app. This will pull up more information about the story including an option to "share" it. Once a user chooses "Share Story" they'll see the options for where they'd like to share the link for the Story outside of Snapchat.
Anyone who receives the link but does not use Snapchat will then be able to see the story posted on the Story Player on Snapchat.com. While these stories will be hosted outside of the app, they won't be available forever.
Snapchat will still be a platform for disappearing content even with that content hosted online. Stories will be available for 30 days, as will Search Stories, outside of the app, while Official Stories will only be available for 24 hours outside of the app, said a Snap Inc. spokesperson.
