Get ready for an action-packed, highly dramatic Season 3 of FX’s horror series, “The Strain.” Season 2 ended with the shocking death of Dr. Nora Martinez and Dr. Ephraim Goodweather’s son Zack being taken hostage by Kelly and The Master. Meanwhile, Quinlan joined forces with Abraham Setrakian in order to fight The Master and his army of blood-sucking strigois.

The executive producer of “The Strain,” Chuck Hogan, provided some major spoilers about Season 3 at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Tuesday. He said that there will be some new character combinations to watch out for in the upcoming season. Additionally, some characters who fans least expected to work together will join forces in the FX series. When viewers last saw the cast in the Season 2 finale Quinlan (Rupert Penry-Jones), Setrakian (David Bradley), Gus (Miguel Gomez) and Fet (Kevin Durand) were fleeing the city on a boat with the Occido Lumen.

Hogan, who has also co-written the source novels with author Guillermo del Toro, warned TVLine that a major twist takes place in Season 3, episode 3 which no one will anticipate. “[The storyline] spins off into an interesting direction,” he added.

However, the most interesting aspect of Hogan’s many reveals of “The Strain” was that Season 3 will showcase more chapters from Quinlan’s life. Season 2 introduced The Master’s half-human, half-strigoi son, but not much was revealed about his past. All fans know about him is that he is immortal and loves his mother.

Furthermore, Season 3 will also show more of Thomas Eichhorst’s (Richard Sammel) past.

Additionally, Zack (Max Charles) is being kept alive by his mother Kelly (Natalie Brown) for a specific purpose. This will create an internal conflict for her since she will constantly wrestle between her desire to feed and consume a human and her motherly instinct to protect her son. “She’s really caught between those two warring impulses,” “The Strain” showrunner Carlton Cuse shared.

“The Strain” Season 3 premieres on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 10 p.m. EST on FX.
