The Strain
"The Strain" Season 2 finale saw the deaths of two major characters. FX

Are you ready to battle some blood-sucking strigois while they feed on the citizens on New York City on “The Strain”? Season 3 of the FX horror series premieres on Sunday night with the show’s favorite characters back on the small screen. But the season premiere won’t be a happy one for some of our characters. Here’s a quick recap of what happened in the Season 2 finale:

Nora Vs. Kelly

Eph (Corey Stoll) implemented his plan to get him, his son Zack (Max Charles) and former girlfriend Nora (Mia Maestro) out of New York City. Zack was to go live with his grandparents while he would attempt to formulate his bioweapon. However, his plan went horribly awry when the train carrying them derailed thanks to a motely group of strigois commandeered by his former wife turned strigoi Kelly (Natalie Brown).

Nora and Zack attempted to flee the scene hoping that Eph would catch up at some point. However, their attempts were thwarted by Kelly who fought with Nora for the custody of her son.

The showdown ended with Kelly stinging Nora, thus sealing her fate as a future strigoi, and fleeing with Zack. Fortunately, Eph arrived just in time to say goodbye as she electrocuted herself in order to avoid becoming a blood-sucking vampire. Nora’s death and his son’s abduction made the doctor emotional.

The Occido Lumen Bidding War

Elsewhere, Setrakian (David Bradley) and Fet (Kevin Durand) set out to bid for the Occido Lumen -- a book that tells the reader how to kill The Master once and for all – against the devious Eichhorst (Richard Sammel). A slimmer of hope for humanity emerged when Setrakian won the bid and Eichhorst lost because Eldritch Palmer (Johnathan Hyde) cut access to his funds.

Palmer’s insolence didn’t go unnoticed. The Master killed his girlfriend Coco in order to teach him a lesson.

Meanwhile, Eichhorst launched a strigoi attack on Fet and Setrakian in order to procure the Lumen. Fortunately, Quinlan (Rupert-Penry Jones), Gus (Miguel Gomez), Angel (Joaquín Cosio) and their army of former prisoners killed his strigoi army and ensured they escaped.

Setrakian and Quinlan formed a temporary alliance while fleeing the city on a boat with the book in their possession.

What will happen in Season 3? The premiere kicks off with Eph struggling to build a potent bioweapon and Setrakian attempting to crack the Lumen’s secrets.

“The Strain” Season 3 premieres on FX on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 10 p.m. EDT on Freeform.
