People will now be able to say they are playing a Hall of Fame video game when they load up the Windows version of solitaire, along with a few other titles.

The National Museum of Play has announced its 2019 inductees into the World Video Game Hall of Fame. The forthcoming inductees include “Super Mario Kart”, “Mortal Kombat”, “Colossal Cave Adventure”, and “Microsoft Windows Solitaire”.

And these games found some stiff competition in this year’s crop of nominees. The games that just missed out this year were “Candy Crush Saga”, “Centipede”, “Dance Dance Revolution”, “Half-Life”, “Myst”, “NBA 2K”, “Sid Meier’s Civilization”, and “Super Smash Bros. Melee”.

According to the Museum of Play, “The four inductees span multiple decades, countries of origin, and gaming platforms, but all have significantly affected the video game industry, popular culture, and society in general.”

It’s easy to see why. “Mario Kart” has been a mainstay of Nintendo’s various systems, from the Nintendo 64 all the way to today with the Switch. It will even be making the jump to mobile over the summer when it’s gestating “Mario Kart” mobile game releases.

“Mortal Kombat” is still going strong, with “Mortal Kombat 11” releasing in April to another wave of positive reviews. And yes, the fatalities this time around might be the bloodiest and craziest NetherRealm has ever created.

And anyone who has ever tried to kill time on their computer is sure to have fired up “Microsoft Windows Solitaire” more than a few times.

However, some may not be as familiar with “Colossal Cave Adventure”. The text-based adventure from 1976 “still offered a fully-realized realm to explore, with treasures to find and puzzles to solve.” This set the stage for “an entire genre of fantasy and adventure games” to come.

These four games will be joining “John Madden Football”, “Tomb Raider”, “Final Fantasy VII”, “Sonic the Hedgehog”, “Grand Theft Auto III”, “The Legend of Zelda”, “The Oregon Trail”, “The Sims”, “Space Invaders”, “Doom”, “Pac-Man”, “Pong”, “Super Mario Bros.”, “Tetris”, and “World of Warcraft” in the Hall of Fame.
