“Supernatural” Season 12 is going to return with new episodes in 2017. There will be several new storylines in the second half of the season, including a shocking one for hunter Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) in episode 11.

In Season 12, episode 11, speculation suggests that the episode will feature a de-aged Dean. The CW series’ executive producer, Andrew Dabb, told TVLine that Ackles’ character won’t be de-aging physically but mentally. “[He’s] trapped in a ‘Memento’-type loop, where he’s kind of losing his memory a little bit. For him, as someone who struggles with all the baggage from years and years of doing a very, very difficult job, it almost becomes freeing, in a way. So you’re going to see a Dean that is a lot more fun and childlike. Jensen [Ackles] does a great job.”

While at first the eldest Winchester is happy losing all that baggage from years of hunting ghosts, monsters, witches and other supernatural creatures, the feeling quickly wears off when she starts to forget his brother Sam (Jared Padalecki). Dabb previewed, “Then it becomes a much more tragic story as he starts to forget Sam -- and himself.”

Furthermore, “Supernatural” Season 12 has, so far, no plans of getting Jim Beaver fback to play as the boys’ father-like figure, Bobby Singer. However, some other familiar faces will pop up in this season including deaf hunter Eileen Leahy (Shoshannah Stern), wannabe hunter Claire Novak (Kathryn Newton) and Sheriff Donna Hanscum (Briana Buckmaster).

Dabb said, “Obviously, as we’re building up the British hunters, we’re also building up, or in some cases re-establishing, our American hunters. It’s a really cool opportunity to bring in people like that, some of whom we’ve seen pretty recently, and some of whom we haven’t seen for quite a while.”

“Supernatural” Season 12 returns on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
